Mohammad Amir’s return, Joe Root at No3, and first Test prediction: Five things ahead of England vs Pakistan

Standard Sport14 July 2016

England take on Pakistan today and, with Mohammad Amir makes his Test cricket return, there are plenty of talking points ahead of this one.

The controversial Pakistan fast bowler is back after serving a five-year ban and a prison sentence for spot-fixing offences.

Meanwhile, with Ben Stokes and Jimmy Anderson sidelined, England’s injuries are starting to mount, and while the country’s leading wicket taker is set to return for the second Test, the outing at Lord’s should offer a glimpse into the future.

Joe Root will be given another opportunity to prove the doubters wrong at three, albeit his average at four and five remains far superior, but do England really have any other option?

Standard Sport’s Tom Collomosse gives us the lowdown ahead of the first Test in the video above, and you can catch all of today’s action from Lord’s in our live blog. Click here for more information.
