Nepal will play at Lord’s on Tuesday to celebrate 200 years of friendship with the United Kingdom.

It will be the first time a team from Nepal, where cricket is followed with huge enthusiasm, will have played at the home of cricket.

The Nepal players were due to practise at Lord’s today ahead of the match against an MCC XI, taking advantage of the early finish to the First Test between England and Pakistan.

Nepal captain Paras Khadka played for MCC in the Emirates T20 tournament in Dubai in 2015 - and is likely to feature for his country in this one-day game.

“We are delighted that Nepal will be playing at Lord’s in July, and we very much look forward to welcoming their players and supporters – both Nepal and UK-based – to the home of cricket,” said MCC head of cricket John Stephenson.

“We saw during our November tour of Nepal that there are a lot of talented cricketers in the Nepal team, so I will be selecting a strong MCC team which will hopefully provide a very entertaining spectacle for everyone. MCC has an excellent working relationship with Cricket Association Nepal (CAN) and this fixture will only enhance that.”

Nepal spokesman Prashant Kunwar added: “Cricket is growing quickly in Nepal, and the strong links between MCC and Nepal can only be a good thing in that respect.”

The proceeds from the game will be used to aid rebuilding work in Nepal after last year’s earthquake, which left nearly 9,000 people dead and 22,000 injured.
