Peter Wright named new ECB chairman

10 April 2012

Peter Wright was today confirmed as the England and Wales Cricket Board's new cricket chairman.

Reports had suggested doubts over the formal endorsement of Wright's chairmanship, due today, because of qualms about his lack of a first-class playing pedigree.

The Nottinghamshire chairman narrowly polled more votes than Derbyshire's Tim O'Gorman when the first-class counties and the MCC nominated their candidate for the post last month.

Following a postal ballot of the full membership, the ECB have announced that Wright is elected by 28 votes to eight.

He will succeed former Lancashire chairman Jack Simmons when he stands down from the executive board at the end of this month.
