Scott Styris stars as Kiwis claim thrilling win

10 April 2012

Scott Styris was the unlikely hero for New Zealand as they won a tense opening one-day international against Australia by two wickets in Napier.

The Kiwis all-rounder was a late inclusion after skipper Daniel Vettori was ruled out with a neck injury which saw Ross Taylor assume the captaincy.

Chasing 275 for eight, Taylor made his mark, scoring 70 before Styris fired an unbeaten 49 off just 34 balls. He smacked a six off Doug Bollinger to lift the hosts to 281 for eight to seal victory with four balls remaining. Game two in the five-match series is on Friday.
