Virender Sehwag and Ishant Sharma will both miss India's forthcoming limited-overs NatWest Series against England.

The destructive opening batsman, still struggling with a hearing problem, and the pace bowler will be replaced by Ajinkya Rahane and Varun Aaron respectively.

A statement from the Board of Control for Cricket in India confirmed Sehwag and Sharma's absence - on the final morning of an Test series in which the tourists appeared set for a 4-0 whitewash defeat.

Sehwag has been unable to find any form at the top of the order in four innings since joining India's campaign in England late after shoulder surgery.

He and Sharma will miss both the Twenty20 match at Old Trafford at the end of this month and five subsequent one-day internationals. The BCCI statement read: "Mr Sehwag suffered from labyrinthitis of the left ear on 24 July 2011.

"Although his condition has improved, he continues to experience headaches. An ENT specialist, who was consulted on the same, has said that he will take two more weeks to recover completely.

"Mr Sehwag has made good progress since the surgery on his right shoulder. He will be continuing rehabilitation to build up his throwing and bowling fitness."

Sharma, meanwhile, injured himself in India's innings defeat in the third Test at Edgbaston last week.

"Mr Sharma sustained a ligament injury in his left ankle during the Birmingham Test of the ongoing series," the statement added.

"He has responded well to treatment, but will need to undergo a course of intensive rehabilitation and training to prevent recurrence of the pain in his left ankle."

Rahane, a 23-year-old batsman, and 21-year-old pace bowler Aaron are both uncapped.
