Super Laxman stuns Aussies

10 April 2012

VVS Laxman hit a brilliant unbeaten 73 to lead India to a dramatic onewicket victory over Australia in the First Test in Mohali today.

Resuming on 55 for four and chasing a victory target of 216, India appeared dead and buried in the last hour before lunch but an 81-run ninth-wicket stand between Laxman and Ishant Sharma (31) set up the opening win in a two-Test series.

Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni hailed Laxman, who had to bat with a runner due to a bad back. Dhoni said: "He's remarkable. Whatever field is set, he can still score runs."
