Surrey will be without an overseas player to replace Virat Kohli when they take on Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl in the County Championship this weekend but today they announced the signing of Australia batsman Nic Maddinson for the T20 Blast.

Maddinson will join compatriot Aaron Finch and Jason Roy in a tasty top three. He will miss Surrey’s first two Blast games but will play 12 matches, starting at The Oval against Essex on July 12.

There’s plenty going on at Surrey besides. On Thursday, their board sit down with the ECB for what is expected to be a frosty meeting over the Hundred. Surrey remain sceptical and the two organisations are at loggerheads.

Surrey’s women, meanwhile, will play in Division One of the County Championship next year having secured promotion with victory over Essex on Sunday.
