Trescothick not quitting

10 July 2013

Eight years ago, Marcus Trescothick was embarking on an Ashes series that ended with England lifting the urn for the first time since 1987.

The opener, whose England career was cut short by depression, played his part in a thrilling series, scoring 431 runs in the five Tests.

His current form, however, could hardly be in more contrast after the Somerset captain bagged the first pair of his first-class career and his fourth successive duck as the county slipped to the brink of defeat against Sussex at Taunton.

Trescothick, 37, removed his helmet and raised his bat to one of the stands, suggesting he might be on the verge of quitting. But director of cricket Dave Nosworthy said the gesture was a frustrated reaction to the pair.

It is understood Trescothick has every intention of fulfilling the final two-and-a-half years of his contract.
