Among the substitutes: Jack Wilshere

Standard Sport21 February 2015

Fit-again Jack Wilshere had to be content with a place on the bench as Arsenal aimed to move back into the top four of the Barclays Premier League at Crystal Palace.

The England midfielder has recovered from ankle surgery, but along with Theo Walcott was named among the substitutes as Danny Welbeck started and Calum Chambers came in at right-back.

Palace captain Mile Jedinak was on the bench after an ankle injury he picked up on international duty at the Asia Cup.

Jason Puncheon and Wilifred Zaha started, with Yannick Bolasie on the bench along with new signing Shola Ameobi, but former Gunner Marouane Chamakh was not in the squad nor was James McArthur. On loan Arsenal forward Yaya Sanogo was not eligible to play.

Crystal Palace starting XI: Speroni, Ward, Delaney, Dann, Souare, Mutch, Ledley, Puncheon, Zaha, Gayle, Campbell

Subs: Hennessey, Hangeland, Kelly, Jedinak, Bolasie, Ameobi, Murray.

Arsenal starting XI: Ospina, Chambers, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal, Coquelin, Cazorla, Welbeck, Ozil, Alexis, Giroud

Subs: Szczesny, Gibbs, Bellerin, Gabriel, Wilshere, Rosicky, Walcott

Hector Bellerin passed a fitness test and returns to the bench, but Wenger is not ready to risk Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Palace captain Mile Jedinak is back from the ankle injury he picked up on international duty while Yaya Sanogo is ineligible to play against his parent club.

Arsene Wenger has been full of praise for Crystal Palace and Alan Pardew ahead of their meeting at Selhurst Park: “It’s always very intense and it is a very dynamic ground,” the manager said. “It’s a bit like Highbury as an old-fashioned stadium with a soul and it has a crowd that is always behind their team. We expect a passionate afternoon.

“Alan Pardew has done extremely well. They have found confidence again and they made positive results and that is what it is about when you are a manager.”
