Darren Ambrose signs for Crystal Palace

Moving: Ambrose will make a short trip to Selhurst Park
13 April 2012

Crystal Palace have signed Charlton midfielder Darren Ambrose on a free transfer.

The 25-year-old will join on a two-year deal on 1 July after his contract at The Valley expires. Cash-strapped Charlton are desperate to off-load some of their higher earners after relegation to League One.

Meanwhile, Palace have been docked a point and fined £20,000 by the Football League for fielding an ineligible player. They used striker Rui Fonte as a substitute in their final game of the campaign against Sheffield United, despite his loan from Arsenal having already expired.

The punishment applies only to last season, meaning Palace's final tally was 56 points and their final position of 15th in the Championship is unchanged. Palace must pay £5,000 in fines now, with the rest suspended.
