Dein meets Gill to end the feuding

14 April 2012

Arsenal and Manchester United have taken the first steps to ensuring there will be no repeat of the ugly scenes that have followed the last two meetings of the clubs at Old Trafford.

As revealed by Standard Sport, Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein and United chief executive David Gill met for peace talks yesterday in an effort to end the feud between the two sides.

The move came after trouble erupted in the tunnel after United's 2-0 win over Arsenal last Sunday.

Sir Alex Ferguson was hit by a slice of pizza thrown from the Arsenal dressing room and Arsene Wenger was involved in a heated row with striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Last season, there were fines and suspensions for several Arsenal players after Van Nistelrooy was verbally abused and jostled at the final whistle of a goalless draw.

Dein said: "I met David Gill on Tuesday for talks. But I talk to him all the time anyway as the clubs have a good relationship.

"Games between the sides have always been tense and there have been many great matches. I have also spoken to Arsene Wenger about it."
