Del Piero fear

13 April 2012

Italy players today voiced their concerns that Sweden and Denmark would settle for the high-scoring draw tomorrow that could see both Scandinavian teams reach the last eight.

Italy will only be sure of a place in the quarter-finals if they beat Bulgaria and there is a winner in the other Group C game between Sweden and Denmark.

Italy and Juventus striker Alessandro Del Piero said: "It would be a dirty result if it were to finish 2-2 and we were knocked out. But I think a 2-2 draw would be a difficult result to arrange, and if it happened it would be a terrible blight on both countries."

Sweden defender Erik Edman scoffed at talk they might try to fix a result. "We are Sweden and we always play to win," said the Heerenveen centre-back, who played in Italy for one season with Torino.

Denmark have a doubt over winger Dennis Rommedahl while Sweden could be without right-back Teddy Lucic, who has a rib injury, and the suspended midfielder Tobias Linderoth.
