Desert wind defeats Woods and Co

13 April 2012

In a made-for-TV event that teamed the best two women players in the world with Tiger Woods and David Duval, a hot desert wind made the quartet of major winners look like they were struggling to make the cut at Bighorn, California.

Annika Sorenstam holed a 10ft birdie putt on the 18th to take their foresomes match into extra time. She and Woods then parred the 19th to defeat Open champion Duval and Karrie Webb.

Gusts of up to 30 mph caused problems and Webb saw one of her putts roll 60ft past the hole.

She and Duval went round in 75. Woods and Sorenstam had a four-over-par 76 but as winners they shared $1.2 million from the $1.7m purse.
