Ryan Giggs believes Manchester United will bounce back from their painful Barcelona defeat by winning the Premier League and the European Cup next season.

The Rome result ended their hopes of becoming the first team to retain the Champions League trophy and tarnish a season that has seen them win the Premier League, Carling Cup and Fifa Club World Cup.

Giggs admitted United were made to look "silly" at times last night but insisted the players already have their minds set on making amends next season.

He said: "Great teams bounce back from disappointments. We are a great team and have great players in our changing room. Next year we'll come back stronger and we look forward to the challenge.

"It's been a fantastic season. We have achieved so much. We just fell short at the final hurdle of the Champions League.

"To win three Leagues on the trot is an unbelievable thing to do, but we'll be looking to make it four next year and to make it three Champions League finals in a row."

The Welsh international was one of many United players who failed to live up to their pre-match billing in the 2-0 defeat.

Giggs added: "This defeat hurts. We deserved to be in the final but Barcelona deserved to win it. We started well but that first goal knocked the stuffing out of us.

"At times Barcelona can make you look silly because they keep the ball so well. At times we maybe chased it and didn't keep our shape as well as we should have."
