Ding sees off Scot quickly

13 April 2012

Ding Junhui breezed into the second round of snooker's World Championship today as he completed a 10-2 victory over Scot Jamie Burnett.

The 24-year-old from China returned to The Crucible this morning 8-1 up and settled the match with a 71 break. Ding has never reached the quarter-final and to break that run he will have to beat either Peter Ebdon or Stuart Bingham, who begin their match tonight.

The Masters champion said: "I'm playing quite well. I'm a favourite but not the favourite to win the title. I'm just concentrating on my game and trying to play my best."

Another Scot, Stephen Maguire, had a dismal morning, falling 4-0 behind to England's Barry Hawkins.

The former semi-finalist had plenty of table time in each frame but could not string together any big breaks, and was punished by the qualifier.
