Dokic vows to change

13 April 2012

Damir Dokic said today he would become a new man to help his daughter Jelena's career prosper.

Dokic, who is serving a six-month ban from the professional tennis circuit for bad behaviour, denied a claim by former No 1 Martina Navratilova that Jelena, 17, a Wimbledon semi-finalist this year, was frightened of him.

Dokic admitted, however, he needed to behave better.

"She don't scare. Everything I do about Jelena I think is very good. But now everything must be stopped," he told Australian television in broken English.

Dokic revealed he would return to his role as his daughter's coach and manager when his suspension was completed in March.

He said sacking coach Tony Roche had been his one mistake.

"I think he is the best coach in the world but after Jelena lost one match 6-0 6-1 he's told her 'don't worry, bad luck'. After that I was very angry," said Dokic.
