Dudek is Madrid's fourth summer signing and third to arrive at the Bernabeu on a free transfer. The others were FC Barcelona striker Javier Saviola and Borussia Dortmund defender Christoph Metzelder.

The 34-year-old Dudek replaces Diego Lopez who signed a five-year contract with Villarreal after two seasons of backing up Casillas.

Dudek, who had been at Liverpool since joining from Feyenoord in 2001, is best remembered for stopping Andriy Shevchenko's penalty as Liverpool beat AC Milan in the 2005 Champions League final.
