ECB chief won't panic over £12million deadline

England cricket chief David Morgan says he is in "no great panic" over suggestions that his sport could lose around £12million in funding if a deadline for reform is not met.

Morgan, the ECB chairman who was in Colombo watching Michael Vaughan's team lose the final Test, will seek an explanation on his return home.

According to a weekend report, Sport England are ready to withhold the money unless Lord's produces a business plan by March to restructure domestic cricket and tackle the Board's 'top-heavy' management structure.

"We had a very amicable meeting with Sport England in November when we talked about the things we are doing and about the ECB as an organisation, with reform high on it's agenda," said Morgan.

"Talk of a March ultimatum is complete news to me. That was never mentioned as far as I recall."

Morgan admitted that any possibility of the ECB losing funding was worrying, but he added: "I don't think it is a serious threat because I genuinely believe Sport England are happy with the direction in which we are moving. I'm not in any great panic."
