Edwards upbeat despite Olsson setback

Olympic champion Jonathan Edwards is confident he can retain his World Championship triple jump title in Paris next month despite losing his first clash of the summer with arch-rival Christian Olsson.

"My performance shows I can still take on Christian and the others," said Edwards, who lost at the Super Grand Prix meeting in Gateshead after the European champion cleared 17.92metres.

British winners included Steve Backley, in the javelin, Dwain Chambers, in the 100m, and Christian Malcolm, in the 200m.
