'El Moro' keen on Arsenal

Fernando Morientes: Prolific in Europe

Fernando Morientes has revealed that he would welcome a move to Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger is reportedly ready to spend £17.5million on the Real Madrid striker, who has been on-loan to Monaco and whose goals have been a major factor in the French club reaching next week's European Cup final.

Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein is said to have contacted the player's advisors and was quoted the transfer figure.

Morientes, 28, the leading scorer in Europe's top club competition this season with nine goals, is delighted in the interest.

Morientes said: "I'm proud that they are interested in me. There are some big clubs in England and it's a very competitive league.

"I've been away from Real Madrid for a year and I don't know what will happen. If an offer comes from England then, first of all, Real Madrid have to make a decision. But I'd like to go there."

Real are understood to be keen to offload the 28-cap Spaniard. Ronaldo and Raul remain their first choice strikers and President Florentino Perez wants to sign Ruud van Nistelrooy.
