England in command

Jonathan Trott
12 April 2012

Jonathan Trott's double-century helped England post 505 all out by mid-afternoon on day two of the first npower Test against Bangladesh.

Trott (226) underpinned an England innings containing just one other half-century and which finished in a hurry as Shahadat Hossain (five for 98) took three quick late wickets to become the first Bangladesh player on the famous Lord's honours board.

Trott is the first England player to make a double-hundred since his fellow South Africa-born batsman Kevin Pietersen managed the feat against West Indies at Headingley three years ago.

His painstaking innings lasted almost eight and a quarter hours and 318 balls, and featured 20 fours.

But Shahadat gained perhaps overdue reward for his much-improved efforts today as England lost their last four wickets for 42 runs in six overs.
