FA to step in over Keown claim

Martin Keown confirmed today that he was struck in the face after video evidence seemed to show he had been elbowed by Leeds striker Mark Viduka.

The incident is sure to be reviewed by the Football Association and, if Viduka is charged, it will put David O'Leary in an embarrassing position.

The Leeds manager said before yesterday's draw that he would come down hard on any breach of discipline among his players.

"If players can't behave properly, they are a liability," he said. "You have to move them on. I have already told them what I mean."

O'Leary refused to discuss the Viduka incident.

However, Arsenal central defender Keown left Elland Road with an ugly lump under his left eye as proof of contact by the Australian.

Last season, Keown was seen to elbow Viduka in a Premiership match at Highbury and was given a one-match ban by the video review panel.

Arsenal will be concerned if a similar punishment is not handed out to Viduka.

Keown was anxious not to let the incident deflect from a hard-earned and deserved point, but he said: "The powers that be will deal with it appropriately. Something struck me, yes. What with, I don't know. I am sure if he elbowed me he will be in trouble, but I don't want to detract from the game. For me, that was a point won. We are in the middle of a lot of hard games in which we have played Chelsea, Liverpool, twice, and Leeds. They are tough matches. When it all pans out, we will be there or thereabouts.

"It was important not to lose at Leeds. They would have been buzzing if they had won. Then we would have been listening to O'Leary saying he was going to win the league. It was important that didn't happen. "

Arsenal will continue their title push at Leicester on Wednesday without Fredrik Ljungberg, who twisted his ankle, and Ukrainian defender Oleg Luzhny, who has a calf injury.
