Fabio backs respect drive - Brooking

12 April 2012

England boss Fabio Capello will help enforce the Football Association's new guidelines encouraging players to show more respect to officials, according to Sir Trevor Brooking.

The FA this week launched their 'Respect' campaign but saw it overshadowed by Ashley Cole's petulance when booked by referee Mike Riley during Chelsea's 4-4 Premier League draw with Tottenham.

Brooking, the FA's director of football development, said: "He will get his message across."

Cole apologised on Thursday night for his tackle on Alan Hutton and subsequent dissent.

But strict disciplinarian Capello, who takes charge of his second England match in next week's friendly against France, is expected to play an integral role in the association's new campaign.

"You wouldn't want a player missing out on the latter stages of a tournament for being critical," added Brooking.

"Fabio is supportive of this."
