Fair play can help Romero

Eduardo Romero, little more than a week away from his 50th birthday, was hoping to steal a march on his rivals in the Barclays Scottish Open at Loch Lomond today.

Romero was in the first group out at the start of the second round, sharing the lead on six under par with Welshman Phillip Price and Spain's Jose Manuel Lara.

With rain expected later, the Argentine could try to take advantage of benign conditions to set a tough target.

Justin Rose, meanwhile, was in need of a miracle to beat the cut after carding an eight-over-par 79.
