Fans choose Birmingham over Wembley

Government troubleshooter Patrick Carter has been given the results of a survey of football fans showing the majority prefer Birmingham to Wembley as the site for a national stadium.

The poll of 1037 fans carried out by the Football Supporters' Association had two-thirds giving the thumbs down to Wembley being resurrected as the home of English football.

The results have been sent to Carter, who is due to submit his report on the future of Wembley to Culture, Media and Sport Secretary Tessa Jowell this week.
