Fans will fight Milton Keynes move

Leo Spall13 April 2012

Angry Wimbledon supporters today vowed to fight tooth and nail to stop their club moving to Milton Keynes.

The controversial plan, first revealed by Standard Sport seven months ago, was confirmed by chairman Charles Koppel today.

He disclosed he has signed an agreement with the company planning to build a stadium in Milton Keynes.

But Lawrence Lowne, chairman of the Wimbledon Independent Supporters? Association, said: ?This is a mockery. They are looking at the history of a club which has been going since 1889 and saying, ?Let?s forget it?.

?The fans will not go to Milton Keynes in a million years.? Merton Council leader Andrew Judge, whose area covers the Dons? old ground at Plough Lane, was ? disappointed and shocked? by today?s developments.

He said: ?I don?t believe this is in the interest of the fans or the club. The club will be alienated by such a move.?

Lowne will also lobby the Football League in the hope that they will block the move.
