Farrell insists: I'm not quitting England Test scene just yet

Andy Farrell is not contemplating international retirement after putting pen to paper on a new two-year deal with Saracens.

With Martin Corry following the likes of former skippers Lawrence Dallaglio, Mike Catt and Jason Robinson in calling time on his England career earlier this week Farrell has dismissed speculation he is set to follow suit.

The 32-year-old rugby league convert, who featured for England during their humiliating 36-0 World Cup mauling against eventual champions South Africa, maintains the Twickenham faithful have still not seen the best of him in a Red Rose shirt.

"I'm big enough to take not getting picked," said Farrell, who also saw teenage son Owen sign a three-year academy deal this week at Vicarage Road.

"At some stage in everyone's career someone is going to come and take over.

"I've seen a lot of people retire but I want to retire for the right reasons. I'm thoroughly enjoying playing and I'm fit enough to play at the top level.

"Being picked for England is out of my hands but as far I'm concerned I'm enjoying every minute of playing.

"I'm quite happy with my own form and feel like I'm becoming a more consistent performer.

"I feel my best rugby union is still ahead of me. I'm still learning and getting better with every game I play.

"I'm becoming a lot more confident every time I take the field."

Farrell has been instrumental as the London side have climbed to fourth in the Guinness Premiership and is also set to feature for Saracens during this weekend's make-or-break Heineken Cup pool clash against Biarritz.

And with director of rugby Alan Gaffney due to hand over the reins to former Australian coach Eddie Jones at the end of the season, Farrell is desperate to give his boss the perfect send-off.

"We know Eddie Jones is coming in but we want to do something for Gaff (Gaffney)," said Farrell.

"When Alan came here we were all over the place, now we believe we are a top four side and we can step up to become a top two side.

"To win a trophy would be fantastic, but what we need is to get that rugged dominance, the likes that Wasps and Leicester show.

"These are exciting times for the club with how we have progressed over the last couple of years.

"We have had a blip over the last couple of weeks but it will show how good a side we have become when we play Biarritz at the weekend."
