Faulds sets sights on big targets

Richard Faulds: hopes for a 'dustbin lid day'
Raoul Simons13 April 2012

Richard faulds is hoping for another "dustbin lid" day when he shoots for a second Olympic gold next week.

The 31-year-old is in impressive form and after winning a recent double trap World Cup event in Germany claimed to be viewing the targets like the tops of rubbish containers.

Guildford-born Faulds started his Olympic double trap career at the Atlanta Games in 1996 before winning gold in Sydney four years later and then finishing a disappointing 13th in Athens in 2004.

He said: "The performance in Germany [in June] gives me confidence because I know am peaking at the right time. "It was one of those days when everything went right and all the targets looked like dustbin lids. I've had a good year training-wise and my preparation's been good so I'm looking forward to next week.

"I've gained a lot of experience from the previous Games I've been to previously and hopefully I can take bits from each of those and use them in this one."
