Aston Villa chief executive Paul Faulkner has publicly re-iterated his support for under-pressure manager Gerard Houllier.

After Saturday's 1-0 home defeat by Wolves increased supporters' frustration and left the team just a point from the Barclays Premier League relegation zone, club sources insisted again that the Frenchman's position was not under threat.

And Faulkner has told BBC Radio 5 he believes Houllier is the right man for the task ahead, saying: "Our best chance of staying up is with Gerard."

Fans chanted 'Houllier out' and 'You're getting sacked in the morning' after the final whistle on Saturday as Villa dropped to within a point of the bottom three.

There were also cries of 'You don't know what you're doing' and loud boos when he substituted winger Marc Albrighton midway through the second period.
