12 April 2012

Roger Federer reached his fourth consecutive final at the season-ending Masters Cup in Shanghai with a 6-4 7-5 victory over Rafael Nadal.

The world number one overcame his young Spanish opponent in just under two hours of play at the Qi Zhong Stadium.

An pulsating first set was eventually secured by Federer, who dropped his service when 5-3 up but recovered to break back in the next game. The second set was a tighter affair, with the pair trading service games until Federer got a crucial break of serve at 6-5 with the tie-break looming.

Federer will face American James Blake in Sunday's final.
