Fergie: Bayern won't dwell on past

13 April 2012

Sir Alex Ferguson claims neither Manchester United nor Bayern Munich will have a psychological advantage when they meet at Old Trafford tonight.

Ferguson believes Bayern have exorcised the demons from their traumatic loss to United in the 1999 Champions League final.

He said: "Bayern have proved themselves to be one of the top clubs in Europe being in the final three years ago and winning it last year. I don't think they have anything to be ashamed of and I don't think they have any reason to keep thinking about Manchester United."

Victory for either side would see them qualify for the quarter-finals as group winners. A draw and they will both be looking to see how third-placed Boavista fare in Nantes.

"If we were not to get the correct result and Boavista win in Nantes, then we would have a real fight on our hands going to Boavista in the last game," Ferguson said.

England defender Wes Brown is United's only absentee with an ankle injury.
