Fletcher appeal dropped

14 April 2012

Manchester United will not be appealing against the sending-off of Darren Fletcher yesterday because the player was dismissed for two bookable offences.

United midfielder Fletcher was given his marching orders during the second half of the champions' 1-0 Premiership win at Middlesbrough.

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson criticised the decision of referee Matt Messias to dismiss Fletcher after he received his second yellow card for fouling Bolo Zenden but current regulations do not allow an appeal.

United spokesman Paddy Harverson said: "We will not be appealing because under the rules as we understand them, you cannot appeal against two yellow cards."
