Flintoff ready to 'give it a go'

12 April 2012

England captain Andrew Flintoff has revealed he could bowl in the ICC Champions Trophy - ahead of what he hopes "could be the best winter of our lives".

An ankle injury ruled Flintoff out for most of the summer, but he was confirmed ahead of Andrew Strauss as skipper for the Champions Trophy, the Ashes and the World Cup.

"I've bowled off a few paces but it's a case of gradually building it up," the 28-year-old told The Sun. "I won't rush and do anything that could jeopardise the rehab but, if I feel ready to bowl during the Champions Trophy and the medical people agree it's okay, I'll give it a go."

He added: "I'm feeling great and probably fitter than I've ever done. I've trained incredibly hard and now I just want to start playing cricket again.

"The next six months will be tough and there will be plenty of hard cricket. But what lies ahead is so exciting.

"It could be the best winter of our lives and there will be experiences that we'll never forget. Winning the Ashes last year was undoubtedly the highlight of my career.

"But, if we can go Down Under and defend them, I reckon that will be an even bigger achievement."
