Flintoff set for comeback - Graveney

12 April 2012

England chairman of selectors David Graveney has revealed he expects Andrew Flintoff to be fit for the forthcoming one-day series with India.

The all-rounder made his comeback at the weekend in Lancashire's friendly clash with Sri Lanka A, playing as a batsman only, and is playing for the county in the LV County Championship Division One clash with Sussex at Liverpool.

"It's great that he's back playing," he told BBC Radio Four's Today programme. "He's started to bowl in nets and there's nothing that I've heard to the contrary that would prevent him from playing in the one-dayers towards the back end of the month."

He added: "Hopefully he will available for that, and he has certainly indicated that will be the case."

Graveney has also defended the England squad in the face of criticism over their behaviour in the second npower Test with India which finished at Trent Bridge on Monday.

The tourists' seven-wicket win was marred by a string of angry confrontations, with England's verbal provocation alleged to be the root cause of the ill-feeling.

But Graveney insists it is wrong to focus solely on Peter Moores' men.

He added: "There were issues on both sides, there were people bowling beamers and people bowling through the crease.

"There were some incidents I'm sure the match referee will have noted and spoken to both parties.

"India deserved to win the Test match and hopefully we move on to a really exciting contest at The Oval."
