Flintoff 'shamed' by pedalo incident

12 April 2012

Disgraced England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff has admitted he is "embarrassed and ashamed" by his antics in the Caribbean but has promised to redeem himself.

The Lancashire player was dropped for Sunday's World Cup win over Canada and stripped of the vice-captaincy after a late-night drinking session which, according to reports, ended in him being pulled out of the sea following an incident with a pedalo.

"I have apologised and I want to redeem myself and pay back the faith people have shown me in the last few years," Flintoff told a press conference televised on Sky Sports News. "The only way I can do that is to go out there and perform with bat and ball."

He added: "I want to get back in the nets, have a bat and a bowl and get back on the field. Hopefully that can be the first steps in redeeming myself.

"Probably for me the stakes have gone up a bit more. I desperately want to perform. I feel I have something I have to give back to the team.

"I have to make sure nothing like this happens off the pitch again."
