Flintoff yet to set bowling date

12 April 2012

England captain Andrew Flintoff is still unsure when he will be fit to start bowling again.

The all-rounder missed the second half of the summer after undergoing ankle surgery and is likely to begin the forthcoming ICC Champions Trophy as a specialist batsman.

Flintoff told a press conference broadcast by Sky Sports News: "The exact dates I don't know - but anything I have done so far, it has responded well to. Once I get to India I can start building up to a date. I can't set a date when I'll be bowling again, but it is something I'm looking to 'progress'."

He added: "I have spent a lot of time in England this summer and have not played a lot, so from my point of view I'm happy I might not be coming home.

"Going to Australia means we have done well, and we want to go as far as we can in this tournament coming up."

The Ashes series in Australia, which starts in November, is the main focus of England's winter - but Flintoff insists the Champions Trophy in important for the time, bearing in mind next spring's World Cup.

He added: "I'm excited. I've played in one before and got to the final. Losing hurts.

"A lot has been made of the Ashes. But we have got to address what is in front of us first - and that is this tournament."
