Floyd Mayweather Jr sent to prison

13 April 2012

Floyd Mayweather Jr has been sentenced to 90 days in jail after pleading guilty to assaulting his ex-girlfriend in 2010.

The verdict puts the 34-year-old seven-time world champion's fight with Manny Pacquiao in doubt - the long-awaited clash has already been pushed back on numerous occasions.

The case stemmed from a hair-pulling, punching and arm-twisting argument with his ex-girlfriend Josie Harris while two of their children watched.

Prosecutor Lisa Luzaich told the court Mayweather felt he was untouchable because of his fame.

She added: "Because who he is, he is able to get away with anything."

Judge Melissa Saragosa said: "No matter who you are, you have consequences to your actions when they escalate to this level."
