Football fixtures frozen off

12 April 2012

The wintry weather gripping Britain has forced the postponement of a number of Saturday's scheduled Football League matches, following pitch inspections.

With freezing conditions overnight, the number of matches off could still rise - and all clubs without undersoil heating will be monitoring the situation closely.

Luton's home clash against Norwich in the Coca-Cola Championship was the most high-profile victim of the weather so far, the fixture postponed because of a frozen pitch.

In League One Port Vale's clash with Cheltenham fell to a waterlogged pitch at Vale Park, and Crewe's home clash with Scunthorpe was postponed due to a frozen pitch at Gresty Road, both following Saturday morning inspections.

Also Rotherham against Blackpool was called off after Millmoor failed to pass a 3pm pitch inspection on Friday.

In League Two Milton Keynes Dons' match against Paul Ince's Macclesfield was called off, and Chester City's home match against Hereford postponed following a Saturday morning inspection - due to a waterlogged pitch.

Rochdale's home clash against Swindon has been postponed due to a frozen pitch and Shrewsbury's game with Bury was called off after the melting snow left the Gay Meadow pitch waterlogged.

No dates have yet been set for re-arranged fixtures.
