Aaron Ramsey: Arsenal will come back stronger from this season's disappointment

Aaron Ramsey has vowed that Arsenal will come back stronger next season after failing to mount a convincing title challenge over recent months.

Though a win over Aston Villa on the final day coupled with defeat for Tottenham at Newcastle could take Arsenal up to second in the table they have not threatened to catch surprise league leaders since a three game winless run in February and March.

Though Arsenal are set to finish above Chelsea, Liverpool and the Manchester sides at the end of an implausible Premier League season it will not be enough to end Arsene Wenger’s 12 year wait for a title, an outcome that is all the more vexing for Ramsey and company.

“That’s what’s been so frustrating this season,” he told Sky Sports. “It feels like a missed opportunity, but we are where are we are, we have to accept that and full credit to Leicester for finishing the job.

“I’m sure we’ll be back stronger next season and hopefully we can show that to everybody.”

Once more injuries have hamstrung Arsenal’s title bid, with Santi Cazorla, Alexis Sanchez, Jack Wilshere and Ramsey spending extended periods on the sidelines at crucial intervals of the campaign.

None have suffered more than Danny Welbeck, whose return from an 11-month left knee injury lasted mere weeks before he suffered cartilage damage to his right knee.

Arsenal now expect Welbeck to spend nine months out of contention, an exasperating end to the forward’s hopes of impressing at Euro 2016.

“I have spoken to him and obviously he is very disappointed and gutted,” Ramsey added.

“He was in good shape, good form and he had a great opportunity to show what he could do for England in the summer.

“I'm gutted for him as well but I am sure he will back from it stronger and I hope he has a speedy recovery.”
