AFC Wimbledon promoted to League One: Our favourite images from their Play-Off Final win at Wembley

1/15

AFC Wimbledon have secured the sixth promotion of their 14-year existence to reach League One.

The South West London outfit defeated Plymouth Argyle 2-0 at Wembley Stadium this afternoon to earn their place in the third tier of English football, and with it set up a mouth-watering visit of MK Dons next season.

It was back in 2002 when the original Wimbledon side was controversially relocated to Milton Keynes, and next season will be the first time they face each other, in London, since AFC’s birth.

Goals from Lyle Taylor and Adebayo Akinfenwa earned the victory for Neil Ardley’s side who, speaking after the game, dedicated the win to the Dons’ fans.

"It's wonderful,” he told Sky Sports. “The occasion for our fans was good enough in the first place from where we've come from.

"I had a feeling that these boys were going to deliver and that second half there was only one team going to win that, we were outstanding.

"It's emotional, to win a game at Wembley and get promotion is wonderful but they (the fans) deserve it; they had their club taken away from them 14 years ago, now look at them."
