Alan Pardew has suggested he will offer John Terry the chance to remain in the Premier League with Crystal Palace when he departs Chelsea at the end of the season.

The 35-year-old defender announced his shock exit from Stamford Bridge to reporters after Sunday’s 5-1 victory over MK Dons in the FA Cup, revealing that he would not be handed an extension to his contract, which expires in June.

Terry made clear that, whilst he will not retire come May, he does not envisage himself playing for another English side having spent 18 years only at Chelsea, bar a brief loan spell at Nottingham Forest.

However that won’t stop Pardew making one last attempt to convince Terry to move across London.

"I've bumped into John Terry on occasion and asked him many times to join me," he said. "He always sniggers at the suggestion.

"Of course I will ask one more time. I'm sure I'll bump into him again and ask the question."

Terry is widely expected to follow former team-mates Steven Gerrard, Didier Drogba and Ashley Cole to America but Pardew believes he could have his pick of clubs.

"He's got a winning mentality that anyone would want. I've seen his comments about leaving Chelsea and he's probably called it right," he added.

"He'll have plenty of options – MLS, Gary Neville has gone to Spain, and there's China. He's got now until the summer to decide the right move for him and his family."
