Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain turns to Thierry Henry to help him score more goals for Arsenal

Goal trail: Oxlade-Chamberlain wants to score more often

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has revealed that he will enlist the help of Arsenal legend Thierry Henry in an effort to improve his goal tally for the Gunners.

The 22-year-old has failed to hit the net in eight Premier League appearances this season and has never scored a goal in a competitive away match away for Arsene Wenger's side.

A superb match winner in the Community Shield in August highlighted the midfielder's ability in front of goal but he has struggled for consistency throughout his career in north London and has notched just 13 goals for the club.

Oxlade-Chamberlain scored his fifth goal for England in Monday's 3-0 victory over Lithuania but is determined to improve his contribution at club level and will seek advice from Henry in an effort to do so.

“I might have to have a few words with Thierry. I think there’s no better man to advise you on how to get a goal here or there.

“My goals record is definitely something I think of. It’s something, as an attacking player, you have to be aware of," he said.

The England international is wary about putting too much emphasis on his goal record as it could have a detrimental effect on his performance but knows that he must do better.

“You can’t force it too much because you start to do the wrong things on the pitch if you try to force shots that are not on but it is definitely something I think about and work on.

“I watch games back and see positions, it’s more so for me getting in the right positions to score the ‘easy’ goals as they say. There’s no easy goals but the tap-ins at the back post and stuff like that.

“That’s something I’m more conscious of. It’s definitely something I’m aware of so if I am able to get on the score-sheet like in Lithuania it’s something I’m happy about it.”
