Former Arsenal and England player Alex Scott is widely tipped to be the new host of Football Focus.

Scott, 36, has been prepared by the BBC for a presenting role and is in the frame to replace Dan Walker, who has announced he will step down from the Saturday afternoon show at the end of the current season.

Scott has excelled as a pundit for the BBC and others since retiring in 2018 following three spells with Arsenal and 140 caps for the Lionesses.

The Strictly Come Dancing star has previously co-hosted The One Show and the BBC's Children In Need and would become the first female host of Football Focus, which has been on air since the 1970s.

Walker spent 12 years in the role, which has previously been fronted by former men's players Gary Lineker and Bob Wilson.
