Cardiff today revealed their new kit for next season — confirming fears they have changed the club colours to red in a rebranding initiative by their Malaysian owners,

The move to red is aimed at appealing to the Asian market but fans of the Welsh club have reacted angrily to the colour switch.

The Championship side have also unveiled a new-look crest (second picture above) which replaces the old crest ahead of the 2012-13 season. A club statement read: “Our investors have been impressed with the passion and commitment from Cardiff supporters for their team and want to harness these strengths to create an affinity between the club and the cultures of Wales and Asia.

“As part of the significant investment, they believe very strongly that there is a need to make some radical but important changes to our brand.”

Following strong opposition to the proposed change, Cardiff had announced in May that the move would not go ahead. But today they unveiled a red home kit, worn above by Aron Gunnarsson, for the new season and a blue strip, modelled by Joe Mason, for away games.
