Andy Gray returns to British TV for FA Cup tie

Sacked: Andy Gray lost his job at Sky Sports following sexist comments

Andy Gray made a return to football commentary on British television for the first time since his off-camera sexist remarks lost him his job at Sky in 2011.

The former Scotland striker stood-in for regular BT Sport commentator Michael Owen in what is being described as a one-off guest appearance.

"BT can confirm that Andy Gray will make a guest appearance for BT Sport at the FA Cup tie between Stevenage and Everton. Andy has a strong cup pedigree with Everton and we are delighted he can stand in for Michael Owen, who is overseas this weekend," a spokeswoman for the sports channel said.

The news comes exactly three years after Gray was sacked by Sky.

The broadcasting giants took action against Gray and fellow presenter Richard Keys resigned soon after following their comments about female referee Sian Massey.

Gray has worked with former Sky colleague Keys on TalkSPORT radio and for Doha-based beIN Sport since their much publicised departures in 2011.

The duo were the face of Sky Sports’ football coverage since it began showing live top-flight matches in 1992.
