Angel Gomes has thanked Mason Greenwood after his now former Manchester United teammate dedicated a goal against Brighton to him.

Greenwood scored a superb opener against the Seagulls on Tuesday night - his 13th goal of the season in all competitions to set United on their way to a comfortable 3-0 win.

His fellow academy graduate Gomes has now left the club after his contract expired on Tuesday, failing to agree fresh terms and now free to join another club.

And after seeing Greenwood pay tribute by making the letter A with his hands after his opener, Gomes wrote on Instagram: “No words! I love you bro special special player, thanks for the dedicated goal.”

United were believed to be prepared to hand Gomes a deal worth over £30,000-a-week to remain at Old Trafford amid links with Barcelona and Chelsea.

But a lack of first-team opportunities for the 19-year-old has been a concern - particularly with United strengthening in midfield with the signing of Bruno Fernandes, as well as pursuing Jack Grealish.
