Ralf Rangnick reveals Anthony Martial refused to travel with Man United squad for Aston Villa draw

Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick has revealed forward Anthony Martial refused to travel with the squad for their Premier League meeting with Aston Villa on Saturday evening.

Speaking after the 2-2 draw, having watched his team let a two-goal lead slip, Rangnick talked of the 26-year-old’s refusal to travel to Birmingham as part of the squad on Friday.

Martial, who has only made two Premier League starts this season, is believed to want to leave Old Trafford and has been linked with a January move away to La Liga side, Sevilla.

Still, finding a buyer in a notoriously arduous winter market could will not be easy.

“He didn’t want to be in the squad,” said Rangnick to in a press conference after the game.

“He would have been in the squad normally, but he didn’t want to. That is the reason why he was not travelling with us yesterday [on Friday].”
