Antonio Conte reveals where Tottenham can still improve after encouraging win over Brentford

Antonio Conte says Tottenham still need to learn to break down tight defences, despite being encouraged by their forward play in Thursday night’s 2-0 win over Brentford.

Spurs’ second goal was a lethal counter-attack finished by Heung-min Son, who also made the opener after 12 minutes when his cross was turned into his own net by Sergi Canos.

“When we have space, I think this team is very good because up front we have fast players with quality [who are] very good at exploiting the space,” Conte said.

“On the other hand, we have to try to improve when we don’t find the space to move the ball better, to find the right solution. We’ll have a session to find the right solution in both situations.

“With space and without space, this team has the characteristics to exploit this situation. Without space, we have to improve."

Brentford boss Thomas Frank felt Spurs’ second goal was a lesson for his side, who were unlocked by Harry Kane’s pass for Sergio Reguilon before the Spaniard’s cross was turned in by Son.

"We have to learn from the second goal,” Frank said. “I always think you win or learn and we definitely learned. We were on top before the second goal and then we switched off, didn't track a runner and goal.

“I believe that we could have won this game. For whatever reason, we couldn't. We have to do what we can to get three points against Leeds at the weekend."
