Former German captain Lothar Matthaus has increased speculation that Josip Drmic is preparing to join Arsenal by reporting that Drmic’s wife is looking for suitable accommodation in London.

Speaking while working as a pundit for German TV, Matthaus said: "Arsenal are believed to be interested in Drmic. I know for a fact that his wife is looking for a flat in London. I assume that Drmic will finish the season with Nurnberg hopefully successfully and Nurnberg will sell him afterwards with a good profit – in this case to Arsenal.”

But Drmic denounced Mattaus’ comments in an interview with Bild, claiming not only had he not signed for a new club, but that he was single.

The 21-year-old said: "At the moment, I'm single. There is no one house-hunting in London. What will happen in the future, I don't know. Any boy dreams about playing for Arsenal."

Drmic’s current boss, FC Nurnberg manager Martin Bader, was not confident he would be able to hold on to his prize asset for very long.

Bader said: "I would be naive to think that nobody would recognise Josip and I cannot guarantee that he'll stay."

Drmic has scored 15 goals from 26 appearances this season and has also been linked possible moves to Tottenham and Everton.
