The challenge facing Arsenal ahead of their Champions League last-16 second leg clash with Barcelona is "virtually impossible", according to Jamie Carragher.

Arsene Wenger's side lost 2-0 to their Spanish counterparts on home turf three weeks ago, with Lionel Messi's brace the difference between the two sides.

Although the Gunners held their own against the holders for long periods Barca will be installed as overwhelming favourites tomorrow by virtue of their 37-game unbeaten record.

An early goal at the Nou Camp could give Arsenal hope, but Carragher is adamant the north Londoners will be unable to overturn a two-goal deficit.

Mesut Ozil is 'just like Lionel Messi', says Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen

"I don't think they can turn it around," he told AS. "I think it's virtually impossible; although that's just my opinion, of course.

"What will be interesting is to see whether Arsene Wenger thinks likewise.

"If that's the case, we'll have to see what team he puts out at the Camp Nou."

The Catalan club have scored 11 goals in three Champions League games in front of their own fans this season.

Arsenal have failed to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League in the past five seasons and another premature exit, albeit to such stellar opposition, will be difficult to take at the Emirates Stadium.
